Gotham Behind the Scenes Preview: The Cast and Producers Tease the New Drama

by Clarissa / May 13, 2014

GothamGotham is a story about the origins of the great DC super-villains,” explains Gotham producer Bruno Heller about what is shaping up to be the most anticipated pilot for 2014-2015.

Gotham is a look back before Bruce Wayne donned the Batman mask. The whole point of the series is to examine how the city became one that needed a hero. But before there was Batman, there was James Gordon, the new detective at the Gotham Police Department. “When we join the show, he’s only been two weeks on the job as a detective,” Heller says.

“I think what’s cool about this take on Gotham is you’re seeing James in a way that you’ve never really seen him before,” says star Ben MacKenzie. Gordon’s partner — the man showing him how to navigate his way through the city — is Harvey Bullock, a cop who is both corrupt and frightening, but knows how to get things done.

As the show progresses, it becomes clear that the focus is on the developing friendship between James and young Bruce Wayne, whose parents are gunned down in the pilot. Vowing to find the man who killed his family, James makes a point to look after the young orphan, along with Bruce’s trusty butler, Alfred.

As a follow-up to the extended preview for Gotham, Fox has released a featurette with cast and producer interviews as well as a peek at new scenes from the pilot. Watch it below.

Gotham will air on Monday nights at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on Fox. For more on Fox’s fall schedule, click here.
