Gotham Previews: Meet Fish Mooney & Oswald Cobblepot

by Clarissa / September 11, 2014

Gotham is all about origin stories: particularly the origins of the city’s most notorious criminals. Two such criminals — Oswald Cobblepot and Fish Mooney — appear in the series premiere. One of them, as you know, will become the Penguin, but the other is unfamiliar. Fish Mooney is a gangster created for Gotham, but she’s got ties to classic Batman characters that we already know.

Jada Pinkett Smith describes Fish Mooney as “an up-and-comer in the criminal world”. When we first meet her, she works for Carmine Falcone, but it’s clear that she has higher aspirations and is looking to take over the city for herself.

Meanwhile, Oswald Cobblepot is low on the mobster totem pole, but his brutality is obvious in the pilot. And when a potential mob war starts brewing between the two major crime families in Gotham, Cobblepot is there to try and take advantage of the situation.

Watch two new previews below — complete with interviews with the actors and creator Bruno Heller — and tune in to the series premiere of Gotham on Monday, September 22 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
