AMC Sets Premiere Date for Hell on Wheels Season 5by Shilo Adams / May 28, 2015
AMC has announced that the fifth and final season of western drama Hell on Wheels will premiere Saturday, July 18th at 9:00. The first seven episodes of the season will air this summer, while the remaining seven episodes will premiere next summer.
“Hell on Wheels continues to be an epic journey in every way,” said Joel Stillerman, AMC’s executive vice president of programming, production and digital content. “The amazing and passionate team of writers, producers, cast and crew, led by John Wirth, are pulling out all the stops to make this final season as compelling, dramatic and intense as the actual building of the railroad was. We’re incredibly excited to share this part of the story with the large and loyal audience who have supported this show from the beginning.”
Season five of Hell on Wheels finds Cullen Bohannon (Anson Mount) in Truckee, California, a town populated by thousands of Chinese workers recruited by the Central Pacific Railroad. During his time working for Central Pacific, Bohannon will attempt to tunnel through the Sierra Nevada Mountains in order to complete the first Transcontinental Railroad. Hell on Wheels did quite the feat last season by thriving on Saturdays after being a marginal performer on Sundays; it helped that AMC surrounded the show with western movies and took advantage of its expansive back catalog, but the show’s 121% time slot improvement demonstrates that it did connect with the movie audience.
In addition to Mount, Hell on Wheels stars Colm Meaney (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), Phil Burke (One Hit Die), Christopher Heyerdahl (Sanctuary), Robin McLeavy (The Loved Ones), and Kasha Kropinski (Prep & Landing).
Will you be watching the final season of Hell on Wheels? Are you disappointed that the show has less than 20 episodes left? How would you like the journey of Cullen Bohannon to come to an end?
