Pauley Perrette gets a chance to show off how truly amazing her character, Abby Sciuto, is this week on NCIS.

The coolest thing about Abby always has been that she makes being “smart” or “quirky” a cool thing to be. For over 12 years, Perrette’s portrayal has given new meaning to doing something “like a girl.”

No longer on mainstream television does the smart, quirky character always have to be the guy who never got to go to prom. Abby has become a role model for girls who are good at science or math or do not strive to be cookie-cutter popular.   Being their best “selves” is good enough.

Abby is smart without apology, and that sets a standard for young women to be as enthusiastic about school, sports or whatever their dreams and never having to pretend to be “less than” men.

Tonight, Abby takes a rare trip outside of NCIS  to a pharmaceutical lab while working on a murder case. An alarm goes off in the Ebola wing, putting the facility on “Lockdown,” the title of the episode.

Even as she assures her host, Doctor Janice Brown (Lucy Davis) that protocols will ensure their safety, gunshots are heard in the corridor. Armed men take over the building and hold everyone hostage including Abby and Doctor Brown. They think the hostages will have no way to communicate with the outside world.

Except the gunmen did not anticipate that this is Abby Sciuto, the scientist who solves crimes in 3-inch platforms. If these guys think they are tough, they should try doing their day jobs in those shoes.

NCIS also stars Mark Harmon, Michael Weatherly, David McCallum, Sean Murray, Rocky Carroll, Brian Dietzen and Emily Wickersham. Guest stars tonight are Robert Neary, Seana Kofoed, David Tom, Marcus Henderson, Priscilla Barnes, Ally Maki, Nick Gomez, Tatiana Chekhova and Alex Stemkovsky.

Former Kansas City Chief/Atlanta Falcon and current analyst on the CBS NFL broadcast team, Tony Gonzalez, returns as NCIS Special Agent Tony Francis. “Lockdown” was written by Stephen D. Binder and directed by Bethany Rooney.

Watch Abby take down the bad guys “like a girl” tonight on NCIS at 8:00 pm ET/PT on CBS.
