Penny Dreadful Season 2 Posters: No Rest for the Wickedby Shilo Adams / March 2, 2015
Showtime has released a series of posters in preparation for the second season of Penny Dreadful and in them, we see that the wickedness plaguing Sir Malcolm’s brood is showing no signs of ceasing.
Season two of Penny Dreadful finds Vanessa reveling in the connection she shares with Ethan – a connection made possible by the inner darkness they share. For years, Vanessa felt like a complete outsider due to her affliction, as if no one would ever or could ever fully understand her because of it. That loneliness forced her to retreat inward and to avoid making herself vulnerable for fear of being hurt, for fear of someone learning the ugliness that latched ahold of her soul and refused to let go. But with Ethan, she’s found the kindred spirit that can help her fully accept her condition; he is someone who she might be able to lean on in ways that she’s never relied on another person, so any thought she might have given getting rid of her darkness has fully dissipated. In its place is a newfound resolve to keep her darkness in her life and to use it to further grow her relationship with Ethan, no matter what Sir Malcolm has to say about it. But will Malcolm stand for Vanessa and Ethan wallowing in what pulls them toward the dark side?
Joining Penny Dreadful this season are Patti LuPone (American Horror Story) as a figure from Vanessa’s past, Douglas Hodge (The Town) as a Scotland Yard investigator, Sarah Greene (The Guard) as Madame Kali’s daughter Hecate, and Jonny Beauchamp (Thirsty) as a man with a singular past. Additionally, Helen McCrory (Skyfall) and Simon Russell Beale (My Week with Marilyn) have been promoted to series regular status after recurring during season one.
The second season of Penny Dreadful is set to premiere Sunday, May 3rd at 10:00 on Showtime. You can get an additional behind the scenes look at season two here, as well as a trailer previewing what’s to come here.
