Rizzoli & Isles Recap: An Unusual Witness

Rizzoli and Isles

Last night’s episode of Rizzoli & Isles took an unusual turn when the only witness to the murder suffered from the condition prosopagnosia, otherwise known as facial recognition blindness. For those of us who were not aware of this very real condition, the attention the episode brought to it was well thought out by the writers. And I do have to say I particularly liked the way the investigation progressed around this challenge and felt it was intriguing until the end.

The investigation began with Jane and Korsak reassuring themselves that their only witness did, in fact, have this medical condition that could have easily been the perfect alibi had he been the killer — I confess, that was definitely my first thought. Elliot believing that his boss was trying to kill him soon helped uncover that his boss had been murdered and that the people whom his company was laundering money with may have had a part to play in it. Because Elliot was afraid to lose the job where he was accepted and knew his parameters, he overlooked the latter, which ended up coming from a drug lord, kingpin Spencer Romano.

As it turned out, having this condition made Mr. Dunn develop a set of recognizable characteristics from those he surrounded himself daily with, whether that be a cap that is a constant on a person or the smells or the sounds a person would have/make. And, because of that that, he was able to warn Jane about Romano to save both of their lives after Elliot escaped and was followed.

All the while, the Rizzoli family was dealing with their own personal dilemma of having a scam artist, Cousin Carlo, come for a visit. We all know Maura is a person who loves to believe in the good of people, which is why she was reluctant to believe Jane and Angela that Carlo would purposely fall in her home in order to scam her. Which, of course, he eventually did do. Unbeknownst to us all, she had installed cameras that verified the staged fall by Carlo.

Let’s just say that the only thing he did right was bake those delicious zepoles. I personally wouldn’t blame you if you were to take the next flight out to Italy right about now, just to grab one bite…

Next week we’ll see a psychopath push the team to their breaking point. Be sure to watch Rizzoli & Isles on Tuesdays at 9:00 ET/PT on TNT.

I love the 'magic' of the film and television industry. Consequently, I happen to watch a lot of TV shows including, Castle, Grey's Anatomy, Parks and Recreation, Rizzoli & Isles and many many more.
