The Supernatural mid-season finale ended with Dean succumbing to the Mark of Cain and massacring a group of men. After Castiel tracked down his former vessel’s daughter, he called the Winchester brothers for help in finding her again after she had given him the slip. This eventually led the trio to a house where Claire’s “adoptive” father was selling her in order to pay his gambling debts. Castiel managed to save Claire from being attacked and he, Claire and Sam fled the house after a tense stand-off with the men. But Dean remained behind and slaughtered them. When Sam realized his brother didn’t follow them he returned to the house and found Dean kneeling among the carnage.

When the show returns from holiday hiatus it will be dealing with the aftermath of the massacre. Dean, Sam and Castiel team up to try and find a cure for the Mark of Cain, but they are unable to find a solution. Instead, Castiel proposes an idea….one that Sam thinks isn’t a good one. Could it involve Metatron like the preview for the January return of Supernatural would suggest?

Meanwhile, Crowley learned that his mother was still alive during the break and she learned that he’s spent the last few years running Hell. And while he kept her chained in a dungeon, she managed to ally herself with him by convincing him that one of his minions had turned on him. When the show returns, she continues to plot against Crowley. How long until he learns that Mommy dearest is a liar?
