AMC Greenlights Third and Fourth Walking Dead Spinoffs

by Jon Lachonis / April 1, 2015

After breaking ratings records with The Walking Dead season 5 finale, AMC is wasting no time loading up their schedule with more zombie action. The cable giant announced this morning that two, count em, two new Walking Dead Spinoffs are in development with an early 2016 production start.

The first is tentatively titled “Eat The Walking Dead” and revolves around a camp in Eastern Canada where survivors have learned to get by eating Zombie flesh. Trouble arises when another tribe that worships the walkers as angels declare war on the ‘Eaters’, as they are referred to in the script. Each week will feature a back and forth battle between the camps ending in major character death, and barbeque scenes that will make Bob’s look tame.

Next up is “Laugh at The Walking Dead“, described by show runner Gale Anne Hurd as the first “Zombie Sitcom”. Similar in tone to The Last Man on Earth, Laugh at The Walking dead will focus on a group of slackers surviving in a suburban setting by finding humorous ways to kill zombies. The slackers are said to also have a substantial number of ‘Pet’ zombies ala Michonne that they have trained to scavenge the area for creature comforts like chocolate and Xbox-360 games.

AMC plans to schedule the release of these spinoffs in such a way that viewers will have year long Zombie action to delight in. Most interesting is AMC plans to have a ‘featured’ zombie that will appear in all four shows, creating an unprecedented level of continuity for the offerings.
